2026 OMLA Representative Box Lacrosse Tryouts
Important Information
To be eligible to play on any Orillia Minor Lacrosse Association (OMLA) representative team — including U9 Major/Minor, U11 Major/Minor, U13, U15-1, U17, and U22 — players must attend a minimum of two tryouts.
No exceptions will be granted unless there is a valid medical reason accompanied by a doctor’s note, approved by the OMLA President prior to the start of tryouts.
Attendance Requirements
-
Players who do not attend tryouts without President approval will be ineligible for a roster spot.
-
These players will not be eligible to be called up as an Affiliate Player (AP) for any representative team.
Registration & Fees
-
Players must be fully registered and all representative fees paid in full before stepping on the floor for their first tryout.
-
Players who are not registered and paid before the tryout begins will not be permitted to participate.
Tryout Structure
-
All players are guaranteed two tryouts.
-
Cuts may occur after the second tryout.
-
Roster spots will be offered following the third tryout.
-
Named coaches will make roster decisions in consultation with independent evaluators.
U9 & U11 Team Structure (New in 2025)
Since 2025, the U9 and U11 divisions use a Major/Minor team structure.
If a player registered before March 15, they may request a release to try out at their next closest centre.
U7 & Young Player Registration
-
Players born in 2020 should register only for House League.
-
As the season begins, information about U7 representative opportunities will be sent to registrants and posted online.
-
All U7 representative players must also participate in House League.
Note About Second Teams
If registration numbers and interest allow, OMLA may offer a second team in the U15 division (2012–2013 birth years) for the 2026 season.
How Second Teams Are Formed
-
Rosters will be selected by independent evaluators.
-
Coaches and bench staff will be named after rosters are finalized.
-
OMLA reserves the right to add players to second teams after tryouts if additional numbers are required to operate and only if cuts were not made.
Program Commitment
All second teams will receive the same level of commitment and development opportunities as first teams:
-
Pre-registered tournament participation
-
Equal practice and game opportunities
-
Participation in the Ontario Lacrosse Festival in August
Our Development Philosophy
Second teams should not be viewed as “less than” a first team.
Creating additional teams allows OMLA to:
-
Provide a representative team experience to more players
-
Ensure athletes compete at a level appropriate to their current development
-
Support long-term skill growth and player development throughout the season
