The R&F Construction Orillia Pewee Lacrosse has strong showing in Orillia’s Boyd Balkwill Memorial Tournament
Friday night the Kings won their first match with a 7-1 win, stunning the Sudbury Rockhounds by handing them their first loss of the season.  The Kings team was fired up and on their game with strong passing, solid defense and great offensive vision.  Chas Sharpe won the opening draw and Jack Marwick started the team off scoring unassisted in the first shift of the game.  Jesse Ashkewe had a solid overall game, notching a hat trick in the effort with single markers going to Sharpe, Hayden Meeks and Tyler Koch.  Assists went to Koch, Owen Vandusen, Meeks and Marwick.  Camden Matthews was solid in net and contributed to the scoresheet with an assist as well.

In their second game of the tournament, the Kings won handily over the Uxbridge Enforcers with a 9-3 final.  Trent Tibbett started the Kings off on the scoresheet and contributed a hat trick in the effort.  Chas Sharpe potted two goals and an assist, Ashton Twyman had a goal and three assists; Jesse Ashkewe netted a goal and an assist, and Jack Marwick and Cam Crate each added a goal.  Cole Rasmussen supported with three assists, Sam Neely and Carson Bussieres each had two assists with singles going to Meguire Naughton and Hayden Meeks.  Jackson Cook was laser focused between the pipes for the win.
 
The Kings faced a very physical team in Halton Hills who is also ranked higher in the provincial standings.  The Bulldogs were definitely a challenge but the Kings dug deep to pull off a 4-3 win.  Carson Bussieres and Chas Sharpe each had a goal and an assist and Sam Neely also netted a goal.  In an exciting turn of events, the Bulldogs pulled their goalie in the last few minutes of the game as they needed the win to make it to the finals.  The ball was turned over in the Bulldogs’ own end and Cam Crate potted a beauty empty netter for the win.  Cole Rasmussen, Trent Tibbett, Jesse Ashkewe and Ashton Twyman each had an assist.  Camden Matthews was in net for the win and had his second assist of the tournament.
 
The Championship final saw an exciting rematch with the Kings and the Sudbury Rockhounds.  The Kings battled in this very physical game but in the end suffered their first loss of the season in sudden death overtime with a 4-3 final.  Meguire Naughton, Jesse Ashkewe and Ashton Twyman contributed goals for the Kings, with Jack Marwick, Cole Rasmussen and Trent Tibbett each adding an assist.  Camden Matthews was stellar in net for the Kings and kept his team in the game staving off three overtime breakaways by the Rockhounds.  
 
The team had a great weekend with all three lines contributing offensively, playing solid defense and showing character and class representing Orillia Minor Lacrosse.  The R&F Pewee Kings would like to say thank you to their Coaches, Manager and tournament volunteers for an amazing event.  The Kings head to Durham next weekend in their second tournament of the season.
